Ethiopian Government Says Pay Dispute Resolved

The Ethiopian government says it has resolved a pay dispute with soldiers who served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Liberia. A government spokesman says about 150 soldiers staged a protest near the town of Fiche yesterday, demanding cash for their service in Liberia. Reports from Ethiopia said the troops claimed they had only received a fraction of their promised pay.

Ethiopia’s minister of information, Bereket Simon, talked with English to Africa reporter about the protests. Mr. Bereket says the soldiers had been paid, but their money was deposited in bank accounts. He says the dispute has been solved "amicably."
