U.S.-led forces in Iraq's western Anbar province say they have detained 13 suspected insurgents in a continuing offensive along the Euphrates river.
A U.S. military statement Thursday said no major battles or airstrikes have occurred during the operation, which began Tuesday around the city of Hit. The statement also said troops have confiscated hundreds of mortars, explosives and guns.
It said basic utilities in the town continue to function and residents continue to have access to medical treatment.
Anbar is Iraq's largest province and is believed to be an insurgent stronghold and transit route for foreign fighters.
