South African President Thabo Mbeki is expected to name a new deputy and make other changes to his cabinet on Wednesday.
The South African Press Association quotes a government spokesman, Joel Netshitenzhe, as saying the president will be making a relevant announcement with regard to the changes.
Mr. Mbeki fired his former deputy president, Jacob Zuma, last week after Mr. Zuma's financial advisor, Schabir Shaik, was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison for bribing him.
Prosecutors then announced they would file criminal charges -- including two counts of corruption -- against Mr. Zuma. He is to appear in court next Wednesday.
Mr. Zuma, once the heir apparent to President Mbeki, has said he welcomes the chance to clear his name, calling the events an opportunity to respond to the allegations made against him.
