Reigning Wimbledon tennis champion Maria Sharapova of Russia and Serbia and Montenegro's Jelena Jankovic have advanced to the finals of the DFS Classic women's tournament in Birmingham, England.
Sharapova, the top seed, scored a straight-set win over France's Tatiana Golovin, 7-5, 6-1. Jankovic defeated American Laura Granville (6-2, 6-2).
The 18-year-old Sharapova and has played Jankovic twice before - at last year's China Open in Beijing and U.S. Open in New York. The Russian won both times, but Jankovic retired in the first set of their quarterfinal match in China.
The DFS Classic is a key warm-up for the third major tournament of the year, Wimbledon, which starts June 20 in London.
