The international aid group Doctors Without Borders is calling for the release of two of its employees kidnapped last week in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Geneva-based group released a statement Sunday demanding the immediate and unconditional release of a French aid worker and a Congolese driver.
The two disappeared last Thursday while driving to a refugee camp in the troubled Ituri region. Doctors Without Borders says witnesses saw the workers being forced out of the car and led away by armed men.
Officials with the aid group tell the French news agency they are in contact with several armed groups and peacekeepers in the region to prevent any violence that could jeopardize efforts to free the workers.
