President Bush Names New Drug 'Kingpins'

George W. Bush
President Bush has added eight people and one organization to a U.S. list of overseas drug traffickers subjected to special U.S. sanctions under the so-called "Kingpin Act."

Four of the eight people named Thursday are Mexican citizens. The list also includes four people from Bolivia, Guatemala, Afghanistan and China, as well as the Mexican organization "Arriola Marquez."

In a statement, the White House says the purpose of the Kingpin Act is to deny foreign narcotics traffickers and their related businesses any access to the U.S. financial system. It says those listed pose a threat to the U.S. economy, national security or foreign policy.

The new additions bring to 57 the number of people and organizations on the list.
