Student activists of Nepal's main political parties protest against King Gyanendra in Katmandu |
The president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Bishnu Nisthuri, said Sunday the closure of Communication Corner was a government attempt to scare the media.
Also Sunday, Nepalese security forces detained at least 30 people protesting abuse at the hands of Maoist rebels and demanding food and shelter from the royalist government. It was a second such protest in a week.
The protesters were arrested as they tried to march in a restricted area of the capital.
Late Saturday, suspected Maoists shot and killed a policewoman and her child in southwestern Nepal. Police say they were attacked while they were sleeping.
