Mr. Annan is holding talks with former rebel leader John Garang, who greeted the U.N. chief with a welcome present of two bulls. Mr. Annan said he would offer the bulls to the needy.
The two men are expected to discuss a planned 10,000 strong U.N. peacekeeping mission in southern Sudan. Secretary Annan said the trip will also focus on securing international donations to help cement the peace deal and assist the millions of people affected by the conflict.
The civil war between Sudan's Muslim dominated central government and the mostly Christian and animist south left some two million people dead and displaced millions more.
On Saturday, Mr. Annan toured another war-torn region of Sudan - Darfur.
