A Belgian drama about a young petty thief faced with the responsibilities of fatherhood has won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
Filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne received the prestigious Golden Palm award Saturday, for their film The Child (L'Enfant).
It was the second time the Belgian brothers have received the award. Six years ago they won for another dramatic film, Rosetta.
Receiving the second-place grand prize was U.S. film director Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers, staring American actor Bill Murray.

Tommy Lee Jones, another American, won best actor for his performance in "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada", which he also directed.
And Israel's Hanna Laslo was honored with the best actress award for her role in "Free Zone," a drama about the Middle East.
The Cannes Film Festival, one of moviemaking's most acclaimed events, was started by the French government in 1946.
