British Polls Show Blair's Labor Party Leading for Thursday's Elections

Britain's governing Labor Party has a comfortable lead in public opinion polls just four days before Thursday's election.

Tony Blair
The latest polls published Sunday indicate Prime Minister Tony Blair's Labor Party has between 36 and 39 percent voter support - several points above the conservative Tory Party, and considerably more than third-party Liberal Democrats.

The Labor Party is vying for a third consecutive term in power.

Sunday's poll results coincide with the publishing of a previously secret government memorandum. dated July 2002, that indicates London was looking for ways to justify attacking Iraq nearly nine months before the U.S.-led invasion in March, 2003.

Opposition parties have attacked Mr. Blair on the matter, but the prime minister says his political opponents are focusing on the memo because they have "nothing to say" on issues facing Britain.
