Sudan promised on Saturday to implement a resolution adopted by the 53-nation U.N. Human Rights Commission that unanimously condemns human-rights violations in Sudan's western Darfur region.
Sudan's State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Najib el-Kheir, says his country will cooperate with a special investigator appointed by the Commission to monitor the human-rights situation in Darfur.
The Geneva-based Human Rights Commission called on Khartoum to disarm Arab militias that have been terrorizing villagers in Darfur, and to bring to justice all those involved in human-rights violations.
An estimated 180,000 people have been killed in Darfur since February 2003.
