New Poll Shows Bush Approval Rating Falling

update

President George W. Bush
A new opinion poll shows President Bush's approval rating in the U.S. is dropping.

The Associated Press poll released Friday indicates that only 44 percent of Americans approve of the job Mr. Bush is doing, down from 49 percent in January.

Approval is slightly down for Mr. Bush's handling of the war in Iraq and foreign policy, and down several points for his handling of domestic issues and the economy.

Support is also waning for Congress. Only 37 percent of Americans polled have a favorable view of Congress, down from 41 percent at the beginning of the year.

More than half of the respondents say the United States is headed in the wrong direction.

An independent U.S.-based research group conducted the survey of 1,001 U.S. adults April 3-6 for the Associated Press.
