Speaking to journalists at the annual meeting of the Organization of American States in the U.S. southern state of Florida, Ms. Rice also stated she plans to meet with both the Haitian and Brazilian delegations there to find out what needs to be done to "accelerate a solution to the crisis" in Haiti.
Secretary Rice says the Bush administration is ready to provide additional economic assistance to Haiti.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Assistant Secretary for Hemispheric Affairs, Roger Noreiga, is expected to travel to Port-Au-Prince to assess the needs of electoral officials. Haiti's elections are to take place in November.
Haiti is the Western Hemisphere's poorest nation and has been mired in political and economic turmoil for years.
