US Appeals Court Denies Rehearing in Schiavo Case

For the second time in less than a day, a federal appeals court has rejected efforts by the parents of a severely brain-damaged Florida woman to have her feeding tube reinserted.

The court in Atlanta, Georgia Wednesday refused to rehear the case of Terri Schiavo, who has been in what doctors call a persistent vegetative state since a 1990 heart attack.

A three-judge panel from the same court ruled against Mrs. Schiavo's parents earlier Wednesday.

The parents have vowed to take their appeal to the Florida legislature and the U.S. Supreme Court. Florida Governor Jeb Bush has appealed to the state legislature to act to prolong Mrs. Schiavo's life.

Her feeding tube was pulled out Friday.

Her parents have for years waged a legal battle with her husband, Michael, who says his wife told him she would not want to be kept alive artificially.
