Pakistani President to Make Rare Visit to India

India has confirmed that Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is to visit the country next month to watch a cricket match between the two countries.

An Indian government spokesman says Mr. Musharraf will attend the one-day match in New Delhi on April 17.

India invited President Musharraf to attend the match during the current tour by Pakistan.

The visit would be the Pakistani leader's first since a failed summit between the nuclear rivals in 2001.

Observers say it could accelerate the peace process begun by the two countries more than a year ago.

The South Asian neighbors have fought three wars since they gained independence from Britain in 1947.
