Liberia's post-war government has suspended four top legislators on charges of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars.
Lawmakers in Monrovia voted unanimously to remove the officials - including George Dweh, the speaker of the parliament - from their posts indefinitely. The decision was based on an official probe into allegations that all four used public money for personal gain.
Liberia's post-war administration has been under pressure by the United Nations and donor nations - which have pledged half-a-billion dollars to rebuild Liberia - to crack down on corruption.
Lawmakers were chosen from Liberia's two rebel groups and former government in 2003 after then-president and indicted war criminal Charles Taylor agreed to step down and go into exile.
