Indonesian prosecutors are seeking an eight-year jail term for the governor of tsunami-hit Aceh province, who is accused of misusing more than $1 million in government funds to buy a helicopter.
Prosecutors said Monday that Abdullah Puteh did not comply with state bidding regulations when he purchased a Russian helicopter for the province. The governor was arrested prior to last year's tsunami.
Mr. Puteh, who denies the allegations, also faces a fine of up to $107,000 if he is convicted.
The case is seen as a key test of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's anti-corruption drive.
