American golfers Chris DiMarco and David Toms have advanced to the finals of the Accenture World Match Play golf championships in Carlsbad, California.
Toms defeated England's Ian Poulter, three and two (three holes ahead and two to play). Toms eagled the 10th hole to take the lead to stay. He says that his game was in synch, and he is comfortable with his play. "I felt good. You know, other than the putter today, everything felt great. I missed a couple of fairways, which I have not done all week. But the game feels really good right now and I am ready for tomorrow," he said.
DiMarco scored a two-and-one (two holes ahead and one to play) win over U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen when the South African missed a putt from about one meter away. DiMarco played Toms when the two players were in college, and he says he looks forward to playing his friend. "You know David is a great player. I had him one year in college and we have been good friends ever since then. It's going to be fun tomorrow. I played one of my friends this morning in Stewart Cink and Jay Haas yesterday. But we are both going to want to win tomorrow. Going around 36 holes with one of your good friends in going to be fun," he said.
Goosen and Poulter will play 18 holes in the consolation round Sunday. This is the second time that David Toms has been in the final at this event - he lost the 2003 title to American Tiger Woods. The winner takes home more than $1 million.
