The United Nations refugee agency has urged Sri Lanka to include tens of thousands of people displaced by the country's long-running civil war in the government's post-tsunami resettlement plans.
The agency's assistant High Commissioner made the appeal in Colombo Thursday after touring the worst hit parts of Sri Lanka by last month's disaster.
Mr. Morjane said there are many people who have been displaced by the conflict and again by the tsunami. He said this is a good opportunity to simultaneously work for the resettlement of the civil war victims, most of whom are ethnic Tamils.
Some 80,000 people have been displaced by the 20-year conflict between the government and Tamil Tiger rebels. They live in relief camps in the rebel-held areas in the island's north and east.
