The Martin Scorcese-directed film The Aviator has received the best
dramatic picture award at Sunday's 62nd annual Golden Globe Awards in
Hollywood, California.
The Aviator depicts the life of eccentric billionaire, aviator and
filmmaker Howard Hughes. Leonardo DiCaprio won the best actor award in
a film drama for his portrayal of Hughes.
The award for the best film comedy or musical went to Sideways.
Jamie Foxx won the best actor award in that category for his portrayal
of the late musical legend Ray Charles in the movie Ray. Foxx was
nominated for a record three Golden Globe Awards.
Clint Eastwood won best director for his boxing drama Million Dollar
Baby, while Hillary Swank earned best actress honors for her role in
the film.
Annette Bening won for best actress in a movie musical or comedy for
playing a 1930s stage actress in Being Julia.
The best foreign film went to The Sea Inside, a Spanish movie about
the real-life story of Spaniard Ramon Sampedro, who fought a 30-year
campaign in favor of his own right to die.
The Golden Globes, given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, are
regarded as a preview of the prestigious Academy Awards in March. The
press association covers U.S. films for overseas newspapers and
magazines.
