Vietnam says a nine-year-old boy suspected of having bird flu has died at a Ho Chi Minh City hospital.
Officials say the boy from southern Tra Vinh province died late Tuesday. The boy fell ill days earlier after coming in contact with infected poultry. Further tests are being done to determine whether the boy had the lethal H5N1 strain of bird flu.
The Ho Chi Minh City hospital was already treating a 16-year-old girl from southern Vietnam who tested positive for the H5N1 bird flu strain.
Bird flu killed 32 people in Vietnam and Thailand last year, and led to the slaughter of millions of birds.
