Sri Lanka observed a day of mourning Friday as the nation's tsunami death toll continued to rise.
The national flag flew at half staff while private homes and cars carried white flags, a sign of mourning in South Asia. Interfaith religious services offered prayers for the dead and a nationwide peal of bells.
Sri Lanka's disaster management unit has confirmed more than 28,000 deaths since last Sunday's tsunami. Another 5,000 people remain missing and are presumed dead.
Relief supplies have begun arriving in Sri Lanka, but media reports say aid convoys are having difficulty reaching some of the hardest-hit areas.
