Spanish football giant Real Madrid has hired former Brazilian national team manager Wanderly Luxemburgo as its new coach.
The 52-year-old Luxemburgo becomes Real's fifth coach in 18 months and its third this year. He said working with Madrid is the dream of any coach and it is a great personal satisfaction to coach the world's best team.
Luxemburgo has won the Brazilian football title a record five times with four different clubs - Palmeiras in 1993 and 1994, Corinthians in 1998, Cruzeiro in 2003 and Santos this year.
He also helped lead Brazil to the 1999 Copa America title, but was fired after the team's poor showing in the 2000 Olympics.
At Madrid he will be reunited with several Brazilian national team stars including Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos. His high-powered roster also includes British stars David Beckham and Michael Owen, Raul Gonzalez of Spain, Portugal's Luis Figo, and French star Zinedine Zidane.
Real is one of the dominant teams in European football, but has faltered recently. Madrid has fallen to fifth place in Spain's Primera Liga, 13 points behind archrivals Barcelona.
