Representatives of Israel's ruling Likud and opposition Labor parties are continuing talks Sunday to work out final details of a coalition government.
Party officials say they hope to clarify questions about the authority and prerogatives Labor leader Shimon Peres would have in the future. He is expected to serve as deputy prime minister in a national unity government led by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
Likud and Labor tentatively agreed to join forces on Friday, but have not yet formally announced the coalition. Political observers say a successful union between the two sides would forestall a need for early elections and increase support for Mr. Sharon's planned withdrawal from Gaza.
Israeli forces pulled out of the Khan Younis refugee camp in the Gaza Strip Saturday, following two days of raids that killed 11 Palestinians. The troops said they were trying to put a stop to mortar attacks on Israeli settlements in the area, close to the Egyptian border.
