A U.S. soldier has pleaded guilty to murdering a wounded 16-year-old Iraqi boy.
Staff Sergeant Johnny Horne was convicted Friday of the unpremeditated murder of the civilian youth in Baghdad's Sadr City district in August.
The sergeant was one of several soldiers who had found the wounded teenager in a burning garbage truck they had just fired on. The youth had severe abdominal wounds and Horne said he decided to, in his words," put him out of his misery" by shooting him in the head. Two other soldiers are also implicated in the murder, but have yet to stand trial.
Under a plea bargain agreement, Horne faces a maximum of 10 years instead of the possibility of life in prison.
