More fighting broke out in central Somalia Friday, killing at least eight people and injuring at least 20 others.
Rival militiamen used tanks and heavy machine guns in the battle, which broke out early this morning in Galgudud, a region near the border with Ethiopia.
Local officials say a week of fighting has left about 100 people dead. Families uprooted by the violence arrived at the port in the capital, Mogadishu, Friday in small fishing boats.
It is not clear what triggered the violence.
Somalia is trying to emerge from 13 years without a central government. A newly installed Somali administration based in Nairobi, Kenya, is trying to end years of factional violence and lawlessness.
