The top human rights court in Latin America has upheld the conviction of Lori Berenson, a U.S. woman who has been imprisoned in Peru for terrorist collaboration.
President Alejandro Toledo Thursday welcomed the decision of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
Berenson had appealed to the court after the Peruvian Supreme Court upheld her conviction. Her family and lawyers argued that she had not been given a fair trial.
Berenson was arrested in 1995 and accused of involvement in a failed attempt by the rebel Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement to seize Peru's Congress. She has maintained her innocence.
