U.S. Secretary of State-designate Condoleezza Rice has left a Washington hospital following a one-night hospital stay after successful, minimally invasive surgery.
A White House spokesman said Saturday Ms. Rice is doing well.
Ms. Rice underwent a one-and-a-half hour uterine fibroid embolization at a Washington hospital Friday. The operation, an alternative to hysterectomy, shrinks fibroid tumors and allows for a rapid recovery.
Uterine fibroids are among the most common tumors in women, and are not cancerous.
The administration official said Ms. Rice will return to work Monday. Currently the national security adviser, she was nominated by President Bush on Tuesday to head the State Department.
