World number two men's tennis player Andy Roddick of the United States has won his third straight match at the Tennis Masters Cup tournament in Houston, Texas. The American meets Australia's Lleyton Hewitt in the semifinals.
Roddick scored a straight-set win over Guillermo Coria of Argentina 7-6, 6-3. The American finished atop the Blue Group with three wins and no losses and will take on Australian Lleyton Hewitt in the semifinals Saturday. Roddick says that he wants to continue his run of success in the semis. I played [Hewitt] three times my first year on tour. The year that he finished number one. You know we had not played for a couple years until Queen's on grass, so I am looking forward to it," he said. "You know we both have been playing well this year and it will be a good time."
Hewitt secured his place in the final four by defeating French Open winner Gaston Gaudio of Argentina (6-2, 6-1). The Australian says that he will have to find a way to counter Roddick's power game. "You know, obviously he has got a lot of firepower out there. He has a massive serve and a huge forehand. He runs down a lot of balls for a big guy, he moves well for a big guy. You have just got to try to make him play that one extra ball I guess and really make him move around as much as possible, and obviously try and get as many of his big shots back as possible," he said.
The winner of this event takes home $700,000. An undefeated champion could earn more than one million dollars in prize money and bonuses.
