The hearing resumed on Wednesday with Kem Sokha again not saying a single word in court, nor any evidence or arguments presented to prove his innocence or guilt in the treason case.
The prosecution on Wednesday submitted new evidence, which the council of judges took under consideration on Thursday morning. The prosecution said the evidence was needed to counter similar evidence introduced by the defense earlier in the trial.
The treason trial entered its seventh week on Wednesday, after hearings were cancelled last week because the defense walked out of court on February 13 alleging irregularities with evidence.
Cambodia exported 45 percent of its products to the EU in 2018, accounting for around $5.8 billion. It was also the second largest beneficiary of the EBA privileges, only second to Bangladesh.
The suspension would affect 20 percent of exports to the EU, amounting to $1.1 billion annually, the Commission said.

The eighth day of Kem Sokha’s treason trial, marking one month of hearings, was adjourned Thursday afternoon. There was no discussion in court on the treason charge, no cross examination of witnesses or consideration of new evidence and Kem Sokha did not say a single word in court.
“Even Hun Sen said if you want to have a fight do it individually. Do not involve families,” Kem Sokha said. “Please do not involve my family.”
Government lawyers tried to suggest that the event was clear evidence of the United States’ support for Kem Sokha and that it had funded his political career, in addition to his human rights NGO, CCHR.
