PHNOM PENH - Cambodia and Thailand on Tuesday agreed to boost economic trade along the border and to better connect Cambodian provinces to their Thai neighbors.
Foreign Minister Hor Namhong told reporters following meetings with Thai officials in Phnom Penh that Thailand has agreed to buy Cambodian agricultural products at fair market value.
Both sides are also considering opening more border checkpoints to facilitate trade and goods transport, he said. Better cooperation could help Cambodians living in the border provinces and municipalities, he said.
During the one-day meeting, both sides discussed the rehabilitation of Road 48, which links National Road 4 to Koh Kong province. They also discussed the sale of electricity from Cambodia to Thailand, as well as the construction of a new power generator.
Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul told reporters that both countries are working toward “border security, friendship and prosperity.”
