PHNOM PENH —
Four doctors accused of running illegal clinics in Battambang province will appear in court next month.
The defendants, two Cambodians and two Chinese, will face fines, but no jail time, for allegedly running three clinics without a license.
The charges stem from a sweeping crackdown on illegal clinics in the province, after a massive HIV outbreak there was caused by an unlicensed doctor reusing infected needles on patients.
Noun San, prosecutor for Battambang provincial court, said the four doctors are not being charged with criminal acts. They have been released, but will face a hearing early next month. Their clinics, meanwhile, have been shut down.
