U Sjedinjenim Državama vlada žalost zbog smrti britanske kraljice, vladarke sa najdužim stažom od svih monarha, dok su predsjednici i političari odavali priznanje jedinstvenom životu i dostignuća kraljice Elizabete Druge.

"Njeno Veličanstvo kraljica Elizabeta II bila je više od monarha. Ona je definisala eru. U svijetu stalnih promjena, bila je stalno prisustvo i izvor utjehe i ponosa za generacije Britanaca", navodi se u saopštenju predsjednika Joea Bidena i prve dame Jill Biden.

Bidenovi su u četvrtak uveče posjetili Britansku ambasadu u Washingtonu, gdje su se upisali u knjigu žaljenja.

"Žalimo za svima vama", rekao je predsjednik osoblju ambasade. "Bila je sjajna dama. Tako sam oduševljen što sam je upoznao."

Buckinghamska palata saopštila je u četvrtak popodne da je 96-godišnja monarhkinja mirno preminula u zamku Balmoral u Škotskoj. Naslijedio ju je njen najstariji sin princ Charles, sada kralj.

Bivši predsjednik Barak Obama i njegova supruga Michelle Obama također su pisali o sjećanju na kraljicu u saopštenju od četvrtka.

"Kao i mnogi, Michelle i ja smo zahvalni što smo bili svjedoci predanog vodstva Njenog Veličanstva, i zadivljeni smo njenim naslijeđem neumorne, dostojanstvene javne službe", rekli su.

Bivši predsjednik Donald Trump i njegova supruga Melania Trump također su objavili saopštenje.

"Kakva veličanstvena i lijepa dama je bila - nije bilo nikog poput nje", napisali su.

Tokom kraljičine 70-godišnje vladavine, radila je sa 14 američkih predsjednika, počevši od Harryja S. Trumana. Više puta je dočekana u Sjedinjenim Državama u zvaničnim posjetama, uključujući posjetu 1976. povodom obilježavanja 200. godišnjice SAD-a; 1991. kada je govorila na zajedničkoj sjednici Kongresa; i 2007. godine, kada je posjetila Virginiju da obilježi 400 godina od osnivanja Jamestowna. Bilo je to prvo stalno englesko naselje u Americi.

"Kraljica Elizabeta je ponudila vrhunsku klasu u gracioznosti i snazi, moći i staloženosti. Njen izvanredan život i vodstvo nastaviće da inspirišu mlade žene i djevojke u javnoj službi, sada i za generacije koje dolaze", rekla je u saopštenju predsjedavajuća Predstavničkog doma SAD Nancy Pelosi.

"Lično, bila mi je čast da budem u Domu tokom njenog historijskog obraćanja Kongresu 1991. godine i pozdravim je kao govornicu u njenoj važnoj posjeti Sjedinjenim Državama 2007. godine, koja je produbila poseban odnos između naših naroda", dodala je Pelosi.

Planirana rezolucija

Predstavnički dom će sljedećeg utorka donijeti rezoluciju o žalosti u čast kraljice. Pelosi je naložila da se zastave iznad američkog Capitola vijore na pola koplja zbog smrti kraljice.

"Tokom 70 dugih godina, od posljedica Drugog svjetskog rata pa do 21. vijeka, preko 15 različitih premijera, kroz velike trijumfe i velike izazove, kraljičino stabilno vodstvo čuvalo je zemlju koju je voljela. Uprkos tome što je provela skoro tri četvrtine vijeka kao jedna od najpoznatijih i najcijenjenijih osoba na planeti, kraljica se pobrinula da njena vladavina nikada ne bude zapravo u vezi sa njom samom", rekao je lider manjine u Senatu Mitch McConnell u saopštenju.

"Kraljica je oličavala suštinu britanskog liderstva tokom više od sedam decenija i ostavlja ponosno naslijeđe služenja svom narodu i nepokoljebljivog prijateljstva i poštovanja prema Sjedinjenim Državama", rekao je predsjednik Senatskog odbora za spoljne poslove Bob Menendez u saopštenju u četvrtak.

Mnogi članovi Kongresa lično su upoznali kraljicu i rado je se sjećali u izjavama u četvrtak.

"Dobro se sjećam njene posjete San Franciscu 1983. godine kada sam bila gradonačelnica", rekla je demokratska senatorica Dianne Feinstein. "Provela sam vrijeme sa kraljicom u simfonijskoj sali Davies i otkrila da je ljubazna i fina, divna predstavnica svoje nacije. Kraljice Elizabete će se mnogi rado sjećati i nedostajaće im, a moje misli su sa njenom porodicom i narodom Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva."

Kraljičin rad na globalnom nivou pohvaljen je i u New Yorku, u Ujedinjenim nacijama.

"Kraljica Elizabeta II bila je široko cijenjena zbog njene milosti, dostojanstva i posvećenosti širom svijeta. Bila je uvjerljivo prisustvo tokom decenija velikih promjena, uključujući dekolonizaciju Afrike i Azije i evoluciju Commonwealtha", naveo je u saopštenju Antonio Guterres, generalni sekretar Ujedinjenih nacija.

"Kraljica Elizabeta Druga bila je dobar prijatelj Ujedinjenih nacija i dva puta je posjetila naše sjedište u New Yorku, u razmaku od više od pedeset godina. Bila je duboko posvećena mnogim dobrotvornim i ekološkim ciljevima i dirljivo je govorila delegatima na COP26 klimatskim pregovorima u Glasgowu".
